Changes on the way...yet again

I was reflecting the other day on the vast amount of time since I last posted something here, and how it was the norm rather than the exception that I blog infrequently. I was actually in the car at the time and had a totally brilliant insane idea of having a keyboard hooked up to a "Mac Mini":http://www.apple.com/macmini in my car that I could use to type while I drive. Of course there wouldn't be a screen 'cuz that would be dangerous. But then I could type up rough drafts for future blog posts, or plot world domination all from the convenience of my Corolla.

I don't think it's practical though; you'd have to use both hands to type and then you wouldn't have a spare hand to hold your cellphone or make rude gestures to other drivers. I guess it just isn't meant to be.

Okay, moving on. Where was I? Oh yeah: refer to impending changes in title, begin with apparently unrelated story about ridiculous idea, reference world domination plot... Okay, back on track.

I came to the conclusion that I'm pretty busy what with full-time employment, a side business, a one-year-old son, church activities, and a marriage, that blogging is hard to get to, not to mention prioritize to a regular occurrence. But I also realized that part of the obstacle is the blogging app itself. I recently switched to TextPattern from WordPress and I don't regret it, but the truth is that it's still time-consuming to update my site with the kind of information I want. What I really need is a home-spun solution, something that works exactly like I want it to.

A few weeks ago that sort of a thing was nowhere on my list of Desirable Things to Do in My Spare Time. Suddenly it is and I owe it all to 1) "Django":http://www.djangoproject.com, 2) Jeff Croft's "incredibly":http://www2.jeffcroft.com/2006/may/02/django-non-programmers/ "informative":http://www2.jeffcroft.com/2006/feb/21/django-templates-an-introduction/ "posts":http://www2.jeffcroft.com/2006/may/11/django-dreamhost/ on Django, and 3) "Josh Works'":http://www.worksology.com newly-created "Wanderlogue":http://www.wanderlogue.com/ (which he created with Django). I was finally inspired enough to install Django and run through the tutorial. Somewhere within the first ten minutes I was hooked. Rails may be great but from what I've seen of both frameworks, Django's more my speed.

So my To Do List now includes creating my own blogging CMS. My other revelation was that most everything about my site simply bores me. Nice, huh? (You don't have to agree that quickly.) Is this the time to throw in a plug to subscribe to my feed? But seriously, this whole "breadcrumbs" idea just isn't doin' it. And true to my fickle, fickle nature (probably the artist in me, which incidentally wishes I had exerted more effort in my drawing and painting classes), I hate the design as of like two months ago. So I'm planning a complete redo. It hasn't been a total waste though. I love featuring music and books that I'm into, and I want to expand that some more.

I don't have a timeline; it's going to have to wait until I find the time, but there's a heads-up for you. If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them.
