This Is Just Silly

Okay, Apple, it's time to stop the silliness. As Mac users know, QuickTime Player does not let you play movies full-screen unless you pony up the cash for QuickTime Pro. But it's well-documented that there are many ways to get a movie playing full-screen without paying a dime. Use Applescript or use Tiger's Automator, and you've defeated this little annoyance. Heck, you can even use a Bluetooth phone.

I suppose one might argue that only the more "advanced" users will search for and use these work-arounds. To which I would respond, this only means that Apple is taking advantage of the inexperience of those who buy a Pro license just to play full-screen movies. And consider those casual computer users who have come from the inferior Windows environment which does let you play movies any way you like. Those who've heard the myth that Apple computers are more expensive will take this as proof, if you have to pay extra for a seemingly standard option.

Now, we've appreciated the silliness for years but it's time to end this charade. Apple, seriously... just make full-screen a standard option in QuickTime player. Hey and as an apology for not providing this basic functionality before, you might even provide the Pro version for free as well.

Something to think about....
