The Disconnect

Seeing as how the web is my industry and a large part of my life in general, it's a rare day that I'm not online. Zachary was born early early Monday the 4th (12:03 am), and we were in the hospital until Thursday due to the complications from the delivery. So I was offline from Sunday til Thursday late evening, and it felt so weird. It didn't cross my mind much the first few days, I'm sure you're not surprised, but by Thursday I felt totally disconnected.

I was up comforting my son so he'd go to sleep and let his parents have a few hours of rest, and I opened up Google News to see what all I had missed.

I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news on 9/11. I think I'll always remember this time too. The London news glared back at me from the screen and the disconnect I felt got worse. It couldn't be true. The places we had just been what seemed a few months before (actually last August), the city we fell in love with had been attacked.

It still doesn't seem real despite the dozens of articles I've read and pictures I've seen. As the details keep pouring in it seems all the more clear that this is spiritual warfare. It's the only way to describe the strategy behind using humans to blow themselves up to destroy the innocent lives around them. It's not about Muslims fighting for their religion, or trying to attain their place in the afterlife. The kind of afterlife created by a god who feeds off of destruction, fear and terror isn't the kind of afterlife anyone wants to go to. The four men who orchestrated this act will get exactly what they deserve, and I actually feel a little sorry for them that they didn't question the motive behind whoever fed them the poison they so eagerly swallowed and told them they should end their own lives to end the lives of innocents sitting next to them on a train.

And the bitter truth is that there are hundreds of men and women who have believed this incredibly evil stupid logic and blown themselves up, and hundreds more waiting for the opportunity. The chance to be a dumb, unquestioning pawn in a greater conflict that they don't even have a clue about - and one in which they're on the front lines of the losing side.
